If you take care of your skin like you should, then you know how important it is to use a good moisturizer. This is especially true if you have dry or combination skin. But why is moisture important? What does it do for your body? In fact, although many do not know it, moisturizing your face can keep your healthy and younger-looking for many reasons.You skin, in order to stay healthy and alive, needs lots of water every day. You lose up to 8 ounces of moisture every day, so be sure that you replace that water. Your skin works hard to keep hold of this moisture, but cleansers and dry air can cause your skin to dry out. Body lotion and other moisturizers can help you replenish your skin on a daily basis. Basically, two kinds of moisturizers are available to help you cope with dry skin. The first contain natural moisturizers and are the most common kind you'll find in your health supply section of your local store. The second kind, which works well in cold weather, draws moisture from the environment around you and adds it back to your skin. Think of it as a sponge. Glycerin, urea, and propylene glycol all belong to this second group. For some kinds of moisturizers, you may need a prescription. Using the moisturizers properly is important. A good time for application is after showering, when you skin is already moist. This will help lock in the water that is already in your skin. Avoid applying moisturizer when it will rub off onto clothing or bed sheets. Of course, not letting your skin dry out in the first place is also very important. Use warm water when showering and washing your face-extreme temperatures can cause your skin to dry out. Also, you can use humidifiers in your home and wear masks at night.Why is moisture important, even when your skin is typically not dry? By keeping more moisture in your skin, especially on your face, you can prevent your skin from aging prematurely. That's why many people with oily skin as young adults find they have fewer wrinkles as they age. If you want this blessing for your own face, try moisturizing your skin every single night before you go to bed and again in the morning. A professional or your family doctor should be able to help you choose moisturizers that are right for your skin. Even if your skin is naturally oily, you can find products that are good for you. Water is important in your body, so remember that your skin, especially the skin on your face, needs water every day too.

What Are Age Spots?

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Age spots are also referred to as liver spots, sun spots, or lentigo. These are flat, tan, brown, or dark brown spots appearing on the body of aging people, especially on the back of their hands. But these also appear on forearms, neck, chest, legs, and face. Age spots are most commonly observed in people over fifty-five. Some senior citizens who tan extensively also develop age spots over the shoulders and back. By their nature, age spots are collections of melanin (the dark natural pigment of the skin), in the uppermost layer of the skin, the epidermis. Melanin is produced by special cells in the skin called melanocytes. Age spots are flat and individual spots range in size from that of a small pea to a dime. They usually have round outlines and irregular borders. Age spots themselves are not malignant but they do increase the risk of skin cancer to some degree. The most obvious cause of age spots is overexposure to sun. Prolonged exposure to sunlight activates the melanocytes to produce excess of melanin. Exposure to ultraviolet light is especially more likely to cause age spots. Other causes also play their role in forming age spots. These include poor diet (especially one that is rich in fats), lack of exercise or physical activity, poor liver function, and autointoxication. Different approaches attempt to treat and remove age spots. Removal of these spots is based on the fact that they increase the risk of skin cancer, which, like age spots, is associated with overexposure to solar radiation. Some of these treatment methods include freezing, using acids, skin sanding, and using electric needles. Laser therapy is now being used with greater success than these methods because they laser targets the spots more precisely and does minimum damage to the skin. In addition, laser treatment is less painful and promises faster recovery. For people with fair skin, bleaching solutions like hydroquinone are sometimes used for treating age spots. This chemical, however, causes irritation and reddening of the skin. Bleaching solutions kill melanin and, with time, this leads to fading of the age spots. Use of hydroquinone for treatment also necessitates that the treated skin area be protected completely from exposure to sun. For people with darker skin, hydroquinone is not used. Instead, kojic acid is used as an alternative treatment formula. Vitamin C products and mandelic acid products are also used to treat age spots. Check with your doctor to find out more about preventing and removing age spots.

How To treat And Prevent Scabies?

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Scabies is a common skin disease caused by a parasitic mite. It lives just below the surface of the human skin, feeding on blood, and benefiting from the warmth of the skin to survive. If dropped from the body, a scabies mite dies within 48 hours. The female mite lays eggs beneath the skin, which, in a few days, develop into young mites. These cause symptoms of the disease that include: intense itching (particularly at night); appearance of small, red bumps, blisters, or rash. Areas of body affected include wrists, webs and sides of fingers, elbows, armpits, stomach, waist, genitals, chest, and buttocks. Scabies spread from person to person via direct physical (skin) contact (especially when the contact prevails for several minutes). Scabies simply jump from one person to another when they are in contact. Scabies mites may also spread through clothing and bedding when they are used immediately by one person after another who had scabies. Usually, scabies prevails more commonly in nursing homes, institutions, and child-care centers. Scabies is commonly treated through medicated lotions that contain chemicals like lindane, permethrin, pyrethrin or crotamiton. These medications are available upon doctor's prescription only and must be used after reading the instructions carefully. To effectively kill the scabies mites, the lotion needs to be rubbed thoroughly into the skin of the entire body, starting from down the chin and right up to the toe. When applying to toddlers and young babies, the lotion should be rubbed in the scalp as well because scabies also infests the head region in children. As soon as one person of the family is diagnosed with scabies, he or she should be prevented from making physical contact with other members of the family. Scabies spread rapidly so if the symptoms have not yet appeared in other family members, they still should undergo clinical examination. It is important to remember that home remedies should not be used to treat scabies, and neither should steroids or other creams be used unless prescribed by a physician. To prevent the infestation with scabies, kids with this disease should not be allowed to attend school or play with other kids. Adults should limit their physical contacts as soon as they are diagnosed with scabies. Rugs and furniture should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and the dirt should be disposed carefully. Clothing, bed linens, towels etc. should be washed and dried in a clean place for several days to kill all the scabies mites.

The itch seems to be never-ending.Eczema, unfortunately, is a condition that often affects children. This disease is passed down from generation to generation, so if eczema is found in your family medical history, you have more of a chance of developing eczema. Children usually develop this condition on their arms and legs, as well as on their faces. Adults find itchy spots of skin common on the inner joints of the arms, on the backs of knees, and around the neck.There is relief from eczema for those suffering from this stressful and irritating condition. You can also join support groups to learn together with others who suffer from eczema as well.As for treatment, a number of measures can be taken so that you no longer irritate your condition. First, and most obvious, stop scratching. This may seem very difficult, but when you stop, the rash goes away. When you go to the health and beauty section at your local store, you are probably bombarded with literally hundreds, if not thousands of different skin care products. What's a person to do? If you want your skin to be healthy, there are certain products that you need, but you don't have to spend a fortune to be able to keep your skin healthy and younger-looking. Leave some of those unnecessary products on the shelf for others to buy!First, be sure to pick up a good sun block. In the past, these products were usually, if not always, heavy and very greasy. Today, manufacturers have figured out how to make this situation better. Be sure to find a sunscreen that is at least SPF 15 for daily use, and you'll want higher in the summer time or if you will be in the sun for long periods of time. You will also need some sort of facial cleanser or wash. Don't use regular bath soap! This kind of soap is too harsh for the sensitive skin on your face and will lead to dryness and premature aging. It is important to know your skin type at this point and to buy accordingly. For example, someone with dry skin will want a face wash that locks in moisture, while someone with sensitive skin will want a product that is natural and very mild. If you have combination skin, there are products for you as well. You will next need a moisturizer to protect your skin, especially at night. Again, find a product that caters to your skin type. If you have normal or oily skin, you may only need to use a moisturizing mask at night. A moisturizer will lock in the water in the top layer of your skin and keep it looking fresh and healthy, even as you age. You can also choose other skin care products like toners, make-up, and creams. Talk to your doctor about their specific uses for your skin's healthy. However, avoid skin care products that contain harmful or dangerous chemicals. Some to watch out for include sorbic acid, lactic acid, PEG, and parabens. These can damage your skin or make you sick. Talk to a dermatologist for more information about these and other dangerous chemicals sometimes found in inexpensively made skin care products, and learn how to avoid them next time you pick up skin care products.

What Is Herpes?

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Herpes is a skin condition that needs immediate care, as it is very contagious and can be painful is left untreated. Have you ever had a cold sore? This is a common name for one variety of herpes. By treating this condition, you can protect and care for your skin in the best way possible. There are two main varieties of herpes. Type 1, which outbreaks around your mouth, is the type most people who have herpes experience, although in more recent years you have probably heard of the second type, which outbreaks around your genitals. Don't confuse herpes with canker sores, which are ulcers inside of your mouth. Canker sores are not contagious, but herpes is extremely contagious and there is no known cure, you can only treat outbreaks.Herpes is a virus that never leaves our bodies. Most people contract this virus as children. The majority of the time, you cannot tell if another person has herpes, since the virus hibernates in the body, and therefore it is very easy to get herpes from another person and not know it.However, at certain points, the herpes virus is triggered to outbreak. The result is cold sores. Different people have their herpes triggered by different things, but some common causes are chapped lips, menstruations, stress, and illness. Outbreaks appear as one or more blisters and usually run their course in one to two weeks. Unfortunately, in that time, the blisters can be very painful and are not pleasant to see, as they can appear with a yellow crust. These blisters do not usually cause scars.Outbreak prevention is difficult if not impossible, and the best you can do is try to avoid the things that trigger outbreaks, like cold weather. On their own, cold sores usually clear up in ten days at the very most, but there are steps you can take to help treat the blisters so they go away more quickly. Non-prescription drugs are now available for this use, and a doctor can prescribe drugs for worse breakouts. If you have genital herpes, be sure to see your doctor. Remember that you can pass herpes to others, even if you are not experiencing an outbreak. This is done through kissing, sharing cups and utensils, using another person's lip cosmetics, having unprotected sex, and touching your blisters and than touching another person or another person's things. It is easier to spread during an outbreak, so if you have developed herpes, wash you hands often and take steps to prevent others from catching this virus.

Rosacea

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Skin flushing and redness when you're not embarrassed are symptoms associated with rosacea, a chronic skin disorder that affects millions of individuals, primarily women. The condition doesn't usually appear until women reach their 30's or even later. Rosacea is thought to result from the accumulation over time of excess acid in the body. This accumulation irritates the blood vessels and since the facial area has some of the highest concentrations of blood vessels, it's the area most affected by rosacea.Symptoms Of RosaceaRosacea affects the face therefore its symptoms are difficult to miss. The main areas affected include cheeks and nose, but the forehead and areas around the mouth can also be involved. These areas have a large concentration of blood-carrying arteries which is why some people blame the cause of rosacea on excess acids.Symptoms are characterized by patches of red, flush skin that may burn or sting or itch. In some cases, the skin will also become inflamed. There is no consistency among patients as to where on the face the patches will develop and whether they'll appear on one or both sides simultaneously. Skin type can be characterized by dry and flaky, or normal or oily. Bumps and pimples are other symptoms of rosacea. Similar in appearance to acne, these skin blemishes are not the result of blocked pores. In fact, rosacea is frequently referred to incorrectly as adult acne. And equally unfortunate, rosacea is often misdiagnosed as sunburn which often delays proper treatment.Causes Of RosaceaAn exact cause of rosacea has yet to be discovered and whether genetics is involved is a hotly debated topic. Many patients can state with certainty a blood relative who has or has had this chronic skin condition which is why some people think it's a hereditary condition. Patient analysis also indicates that fair-skinned persons and persons of Irish, English, Scottish, Scandinavian and Welsh descent seem to experience more instances of rosacea.Other possible causes include bacteria, fungus and mites. Some attribute it to psychological factors and others claim there's some type of problem in the skin's connective tissues.Rosacea TreatmentsRosacea is definitely not infectious or contagious and the fact that antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to treat it causes confusion. This is done more for the anti-inflammatory capability of antibiotics not their bacteria fighting ability. Sun screen is an absolute to avoid flare-ups must and so are skin care products formulated for sensitive skin.There are several triggers known to cause rosacea to flare. People with rosacea can work at keeping it under control by avoiding the following environmental triggers: foods that are spicy, alcoholic beverages, weather that's hot or cold, beverages that have been heated, hot baths/saunas, strenuous exercise and stress that's caused by emotional swings. In cases where redness is severe, laser therapy can be prescribed. The process helps remove the blood vessels that cause the redness. Dermabrasion can help smooth the bumps.

Skin Aging And Wrinkles

Skin Aging And Wrinkles

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Skin aging and wrinkles are a person's two worst enemies. Although there is little one can do to prevent these tell-tale signs of aging, there are ways to delay their appearance. Skin begins the aging process almost from the moment you're born, so if you want to control skin aging and wrinkles, start early!Causes Of Skin Aging And WrinklesOver time, the important skin components elastin and collagen start to break apart and skin begins to lose its elasticity, its underlying structure and its ability to spring back into shape. Cell reproduction slows with age causing fat cells and oil glands to atrophy. As this happens, production of emulsions designed to keep skin moist slows and skin starts to become dry. Add in the effects of gravity and soon the jowls, arms and eyelids begin to sag. Several other environmental factors contribute to the onset of skin aging and wrinkles. Cigarette smoking, air pollution, laughing and frowning, and unprotected exposure to the sun all play a role. What's different about these environmental factors is that most are within a person's ability to control. So while there is no way (as of yet) to stop the aging process, the factors that contribute to its acceleration can be stopped.Skin aging and wrinkling can be slowed by always protecting the skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. These rays can penetrate unprotected layers of skin. They produce radiation which can seriously and permanently damage the cells that form skin tissue. UVA rays are believed capable of releasing oxidants, unstable particles that cause extensive cell damage. Cigarette smoking promotes the release of oxidants as well. Oxidants slow the production of new collagen and elastin. Known also as free radicals, the best way to protect against their negative effects is to consume a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Smoking also restricts the blood flow in the epidermis so skin doesn't get the quantity of nutrients it needs to stay healthy. The repetitive nature of cigarette smoking, specifically the repetitive contraction of the muscles surrounding the mouth, accelerates skin aging and wrinkling as do the muscle contractions that occur when laughing and frowning. Air pollution contributes to wrinkles by depriving the skin of Vitamin E, another important antioxidant. Skin Care For Anti-Aging And WrinklesKeeping skin clean and moist is the best skin care regime for anti-aging and wrinkles. It's better than most of the higher-priced solutions that promise to end wrinkling. Wash with warm water and gentle cleaner and pat skin dry so some moisture remains. Hot water and harsh soaps deplete skin of essential oils and increase dryness. Also avoid products with dyes or perfumes which may further irritate skin. Gently remove eye makeup as the skin surrounding the eyes is very delicate and prone to wrinkling. And there you have it – simple, inexpensive skin care for anti-aging and wrinkles. Aging is an unstoppable process and unfortunately, so are wrinkles. So protect your skin by living a healthy lifestyle. Eat right, exercise, don't smoke and avoid excess alcohol consumption.

Men's Skin Care

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
A booming industry, men's skin care is finally making its way to the top of the agenda. Whether it's something men are doing to help remain competitive or to help ward off the signs of growing old, men of all ages and all walks of life are starting to care about using the right types of products for their skin type.Men's skin differs from women's in that it contains a higher percentage of collagen and elastin, so it's thicker. Men's sebaceous glands also work harder than a woman's meaning that men's skin generally is oilier. Real Men Are Concerned With Skin CareBesides all the regular enemies of skin like the sun, poor diet and cold weather, men's skin needs protection from the razor blade. Daily removal of facial hair requires the application of vitamin-rich shaving gel to protect skin from rashes and burns that sometimes result from shaving. If you want to avoid having your appearance referred to as 'weather beaten' you had better start protecting your skin from the sun. Sunburns aren't sexy and neither are the signs of premature aging. If surfers are man enough to walk around with heavy white zinc on their noses and lips, then you can be man enough to apply sunscreen when you're outdoors golfing, fishing, working or playing. General Guidelines For Men's Skin CareBegin the day by deep-cleaning your face to remove dirt and sweat. Cleanse again before going to bed. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and other pore-blocking grime. Exfoliating also will open your pores and that's going to ensure a closer shave. Before shaving, splash your face with warm water. That will make it easier to work up a good lather and it will soften skin. Take a few extra moments to really massage in the shaving cream. The massaging action will help stimulate blood flow in the dermis. Never use a dull blade to shave. And to ensure a close shave, always shave in the same direction as hair growth. Shaving in the opposite direction or shaving in both directions can leave you with skin that's red and irritated. Finally, take your time when shaving. Even though you've done it most of your life, you still need to be careful.Moisturizing is important to help skin seal in moisture. Plus, many shaving products dry skin. Choose moisturizing products that also condition skin such as those that contain vitamins or aloe vera. It's important to use after shave products that don't contain alcohol. It's too harsh and it'll dry skin which is opposite of what you want.Remember that your face isn't the only part of your body that's covered with skin. Keep all skin clean and moist, especially on your feet, elbows, arms and your hands. Soft hands are nice to hold. And finally, live the good life. Eat right, exercise moderately, don't smoke, and limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, all of which help keep skin healthy. That's the part of men's skin care you don't often hear much about.

Ingredients like lanolin, are made from sheep wool which may have been exposed to pesticides.If you have symptoms such as watery eyes, reddened skin, nausea, mood swings and inability to concentrate, the culprit could be your skin care product. Cosmetics and other hygiene products contain preservatives to keep them from becoming contaminated, however the preservatives have been known to release small amounts of formaldehyde. This chemical is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin. So what do you do to protect yourself from the damaging chemicals contained in cosmetics and skin care products? What does the term organic mean? It means something that is produced without using harmful pesticides, hormones or other chemicals. Organic farming means that the product is raised naturally without any additives. This can also pertain to animals. Livestock that is raised organically have not been exposed to pesticides and have not been given growth hormones. They have been fed only natural organic foods. Organic is the way nature intended it to be. Pure and natural.Finding a good skin care product that is truly organic can be a little confusing. Manufacturers are allowed to label a product as organic even if it is not 100% organic. This seems a little sneaky, but it does happen a lot. The best way to tell if your product is truly organic is to read the label ingredients carefully. If the label lists ingredients that say "extract from" or "derived from" and then a long chemical sounding name follows, chances are your product is not organic. You should look for products that list fruits and other natural substances. The first ingredient listed is what the product has the most of. The last ingredient is what the product has the least of. If you can find truly organic skin care products, you will notice a big difference in the way your skin looks and feels. Fruits and other natural ingredients are very good for the skin, giving it the nutrients that it needs. If you are having trouble finding true organic skin care products in the store, make your own. Visit your local library and find books on organics that contain recipes for skin care. Do a search online to see how many recipes you can come up with. Try them out and pick your favorite.The good thing about making your own is that you know for sure what is in it. In addition, making your own probably costs a whole lot less!Your skin is a very important part of your body. It is your first line of defense against germs, heat and cold. Treat it well.

This article will give you the basics of good skin that you can fit into any daily routine. Taking care of your skin is important. However, your busy lifestyle probably does not leave a whole lot time to think about skin care. Skin care should be simple and fast to do each day. The first step in learning how to take care of your skin is to know what skin type you have. You may have oily skin, which is shiny with enlarged pores. You skin may be a combination, which tends to be oily in the t-zone and have a smooth, even texture everywhere else. Sensitive skin flushes easily and is prone to rashes. Dry skin feels tight and may have fine wrinkles. Aging or sun damaged skin is tight, with some wrinkles and may have a leathery like appearance.After you have determined what type of skin you have, skin care is easy. Find a good cleanser made specifically for your skin type. Never use bar soap to clean your face because it will dry your skin. Cleanse your face nightly using lukewarm water, after removing all makeup with a good makeup remover. Experts warn against over cleansing the skin because it can strip your skin if natural oils that it needs to stay healthy.The next step to glowing, healthy, skin is to exfoliate. This should be done once a week using a microdermabrasion kit. Exfoliate scrubs work by scrubbing off the top layer of skin, removing the dead skin cells and exposing the new skin cells underneath. You want to use a scrub with tiny grains. The larger grains found in cheaper scrubs can actually harm your skin, causing small abrasions and opening it up to infection. It you have the money, a chemical peel is a good way to remove dead skin cells. Moisturizing is an important step in good skin care. A good moisturizer will seal much needed moisture into the skin, making it softer and smoother. Even people with oily skin should use a moisturizer. But be careful, because it is possible to use too much and clog your pores. That is when you will notice acne developing. If you have an under eye problem such as dark circles, you may want to try an under eye cream. The skin underneath your eye is very thin and prone to wrinkles. Some women need to pay extra attention to the areas underneath their eyes.However, the most important thing that you can do for your skin is to protect it from sun damage. Find a good moisturizer that has UV ray protection and wear it all the time. Use sunscreen faithfully when doing outdoor activities, even on cloudy days. Sun damage can cause wrinkles, dry, leathery skin and skin cancer. Your skin is your most important beauty accessory. Your skin reflects how well you take care of yourself. Drink plenty of water to keep it nourished and develop a good skin care routine. Take good care of your skin, you don't get anymore.

Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it has the very important job of protecting you from germs and diseases. It is the covering that protects your internal organs and muscles as well. People take their skin for granted and mistreat it by going out in the sun without sun block, washing it with drying soaps, not keeping it hydrated by drinking plenty of water and by just not eating right to give the skin nourishment. If you want to take care of any of your other body organs, you would go to a professional, so why not use a professional for your skin care? A person who is certified in professional skin care is called an esthetician. There are schools that you can attend, either on campus or online to become a certified esthetician. These students will study the science related to skin, nails and hair. They will study anatomy and physiology as related to the skin. The courses will focus on improving the appearance of the skin, hair and nails through increased circulation, eating right and eliminating toxins from your system. A certified professional skin care therapist will be taught techniques such as international skin treatments, permanent makeup application, speed waxing, microdermabrasion and skin analysis. This is a highly technical field that uses state of the art equipment such as, galvanic, ionic and high frequency tools to enhance the appearance of the skin. A good skin care school will stay on top of scientifically advanced treatmenst and incorporate them into their curriculum.An esthetician can expect to find jobs in day spas and salons. However, they are not limited to these venues. They can also advance their studies and go into paramedical esthetics where they will learn about plastic surgery procedures, pre and post operative care. They can also learn about camouflage techniques to hide damage from severe burns, accidents or skin cancer. These skin care professionals can find jobs in doctor's offices, hospitals and burn centers and other health related areas. The job opportunities for a skin care professional is unlimited. The amount of hours that it takes to complete a course varies from school to school. The type of skin care professional that you want to be would have an influence on how long it would take also. Once you complete your college courses for professional skin care, you must take a state board exam to be certified. Skin care esthetics is a growing field and the job outlook is good. People are becoming more and more health conscious and desire to look good. As the baby boomers age, they will be looking into professional skin care to reduce the signs of aging. So if you want a challenging and rewarding career, try becoming a professional skin care therapist.

An Introduction To Sun Protection

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Sun protection isn't just for sissies. Protection from the sun's damaging rays is important for anyone who wants to grow old gracefully. It's also an absolute must for anyone who wants to limit his or her risk of developing skin cancer. People are finally beginning to realize that although sunshine is an important component of most outdoor activities and a great mood enhancer, excessive exposure can lead to much unpleasantness. A painful sunburn is the most immediate consequence of excess exposure. Long term, excess exposure can damage the skin making it prone to wrinkling and worse, the development of skin cancer.When Do You Need Sun Protection?Doctors will tell you that sun protection is needed all the time and they're right. Realistically however it's important anytime you'll be outdoors between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, when the sun is at its highest.People don't realize that they can still burn even though the sun isn't shining. Overcast days are some of the worst times for being in the sun unprotected. And because ultraviolet rays can reflect off certain surfaces, people need protection from the sun when snow covers the ground and also when in the water, when lying or playing on the sand and even when on a cement or grass surface. Understanding UV Rays Ultraviolet rays are the different wavelengths of energy that are produced by the sun. Even though harmful, the sun's energy is necessary to all human life. Fortunately, as life on earth has evolved so has the capacity to tolerate UV rays. The most important protection against the damaging ultraviolet rays is the ozone layer - a layer in the stratosphere that absorbs most of the various types of UV rays before they reach the earth's surface. Most of this radiation or energy from the sun is invisible to the naked eye. The fact that the radiation is mostly invisible is likely the reason why the sun can be so harmful. It's hard to convince a person to protect against something that can't be seen. Of the ultraviolet rays, the two that are responsible for skin damage are UVA and UVB rays. The sun also generates UVC rays, but fortunately these extremely damaging rays cannot penetrate the ozone layer and therefore pose no threat to humans. The longer and more prevalent of the two, UVA rays are responsible for long-term skin damage because they absorb deep into the skin. Their strength remains uniform regardless of the time of day or time of year. UVB rays are shorter and are what causes skin to tan or sunburns. Our bodies need UVB rays to produce Vitamin D, an important vitamin. Their strength varies based on time of day, time of year, altitude and also distance from the equator.The UV Index is a scale measuring from 0 – 11 (low to extreme) and it's used to determine the intensity of the sun's radiation, particularly the likelihood that skin will or will not redden when exposed to the sun for various periods of time.

Natural Ingredients Or Synthetic – Which Are Better For Your Skin?

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Can you really believe everything you read? When it comes to selecting skin care products, the answer might surprise you. A debate rages on as to whether products containing all natural ingredients are really better than those containing synthetic ingredients. With both sides of this issue taking a firm stand, and publishing 'official' report after report, it is the consumer who most often becomes lost in the maze of unfounded marketing promises and supposedly 'guaranteed' results.Are skin care products with natural ingredients better?This seems to be the million-dollar question, literally. Skin care product manufacturers right now are spending millions of dollars researching everything from alfalfa to yucca in an attempt to not only gain a competitive edge, but to grab more of consumers' dollars. With marketing departments working overtime, manufacturers of skin care products work hard to cleverly combine catchy phrases, attention-grabbing packaging and testimonials from 'experts' in the field of natural product research and development. The end results of these efforts are expensive moisturizers, cleansers, shampoos, masks, exfoliants and cosmetics that claim to work miracles on your skin, safely, and most importantly, naturally.But are these claims true? Once again, that depends on which side of the fence you're on when it comes to supporting natural products versus synthetic products. Before you take a side on this hotly contested issue, there's one very important fact that you need to know. The federal government has yet to define guidelines and regulations governing use of the term, 'natural'. That means marketers can use the term any way they choose, irregardless of the ingredients used in their products or the manufacturing processes used to produce those products. Although a skin care product might very well contain natural products like aloe or vitamin E, what you're not being told is that the processes used to extract these components often utilize many synthetic materials. And even once natural ingredients are extracted, they're usually combined with synthetic products such as preservatives and stabilizing agents that help prolong shelf life. One of the biggest risks involved with using natural ingredients is the potential for an allergic reaction. Lots of people have food allergies, so putting products containing plants or plant extracts on their skin may increase the risks of an allergic reaction. And even if a full-blown allergic reaction doesn't occur, natural ingredients often cause skin irritation and/or sensitivity. Focus more of your attention on putting natural ingredients into your mouth and not onto your skin. One thing everyone can agree on is that eating a diet loaded with antioxidants and vitamins is extremely beneficial to healthy skin. The body is very efficient at processing natural foods and using the blood stream to transport these nutrients to the skin.Find a skin care product line you trust and that works well with your skin type. Then become a loyal customer of that product line. Your skin will be happier as a result.

Sensitive Skin Care

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Contrary to what you might have heard, sensitive skin isn't considered a medical condition. When someone says he or she has sensitive skin, it typically means the skin has become irritated, red, swollen and/or itchy as a result of either an environmental condition or use of a certain product. The term is also used to describe changes to a person's skin in response to allergic reactions.Why Can Skin Be Sensitive?Although there are several reasons why skin can be sensitive, the most common is that skin is reacting negatively to a certain product or possibly some combination of products. Think about your daily skin care regime, specifically the number of products you use. Soaps, cleansers, toners, blemish reducers, blemish concealers, foundation, blush, facial masks, after shave lotion – the list never ends! You probably use products that are made by a number of different manufacturers, too. While your intentions are good, some skin cannot tolerate such an assault.Causes Of Sensitive SkinTrying to pinpoint the cause of sensitive skin is not always as simple as discontinuing use of a certain product. Because of the nature of sensitive skin, it can take hours or even days before the signs of sensitivity are visible. And the sensitivity may not be caused by a product. Exposure to the sun can create skin problems, as can extremely hot water. Your laundry detergent, fabric softeners, shampoo, perfume, hair spray, and even the household cleaning products you use can be the culprit. Certain foods and even some plants can cause symptoms of an allergic reaction as well. Healthy skin is less sensitive because it's able to act as an effective barrier. Sunburned skin, skin that's excessively dry and skin that is otherwise damaged tends to be more sensitive. That's one reason why people who don't normally have sensitive skin develop skin sensitivity during winter months when dry, cold air strips skin of its protective moisture. How To Treat Sensitive SkinBefore sensitive skin can be treated, it's important to figure out the underlying cause of the problem. It may be necessary to seek the advice of a dermatologist as you may have a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea. Here are some tips for treating sensitive skin.Start reading product labels - the fewer ingredients, the better. Avoid products containing alcohol, fragrances, botanicals, antibacterial, ethanol and propylene glycol.Spot test new facial products before applying to entire face. Apply a few dabs behind ears for 5 days, and if there's no reaction, apply beside eyes for another 5 days. If all goes well, full facial coverage likely will be safe. Choose natural fabrics for pillowcases and washcloths like 100% cotton or silk instead of synthetic materials. Check your 'cotton' balls, too. Some look like cotton but really are polyester. Eat a balanced diet to ensure skin gets the nutrients it needs to remain healthy.Keep skin moist and always apply sun protection.Gently clean skin. Avoid harsh products like scrubbing mitts, excessively hot water and abrasive exfoliating products.

Women's Skin Care

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
All skin care is not created equally! Women's skin care differs from that of children and men, and among women, skin care even differs at various stages of life. A woman's appearance on the outside is generally a good indication of what's going on inside her body. Poor nutrition, unhealthy lifestyle choices and stress all contribute to the overall poor health of the skin. Bad habits such as smoking and consuming high-fat, high-salt diets deprive the body of the important nutrients skin needs.Although they don't shave their faces, women do shave other body parts, including parts that are very sensitive. Extra care should be taken to avoid further skin irritation, cuts or ingrown hairs. Women have a tendency to retain water, causing skin to look and feel more bloated. To keep water retention under control, it's important for women to limit the amount of salt in their diets. Men are gaining ground but still, women are more likely to undergo skin treatment procedures. Augmentation, dermabrasion and laser treatments all will change the skin's appearance but too much will ultimately wreak havoc. Always weigh the risks versus the benefits before 'going under the knife'.Besides emotional ups and downs, wildly fluctuating hormones during pregnancy and menopause can cause changes in a woman's skin. Skin Care During Pregnancy Take a look at the products you use to ensure they're safe during pregnancy. Should you have any concerns, purchase products which are labeled safe to use during pregnancy. Pregnancy can cause normal skin to become oily so you may have to change to skin care products that combat acne. Use toners and exfoliate to remove dead cells and deep clean pores. Continue to moisturize skin, especially your growing belly, to reduce chances of developing stretch marks. Your feet are getting an extra workout so be sure to massage with a foot lotion containing refreshing menthol. Pigmentation sometimes changes during pregnancy, increasing the likelihood of sunburn/tan. Never forget to wear sunscreen to protect against damaging skin. Skin Care During MenopauseFluctuations in a woman's progesterone and estrogen levels will cause skin to change. Facial hair may sprout and skin will start to sag, wrinkle and thin. It's also drier due to slowed production of sebum. Interestingly, changing hormone levels may cause a new round of acne! Random dark spots and broken blood vessels will likely appear. To counter the effects of dry skin, add humidity into the air, take shorter and warmer baths or showers and moisturize. Risks of skin cancer now increase so closely monitor moles and other skin discolorations. Most importantly, be vigilant about proper sun protection.

Why Beauty Is But Skin Deep

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Ancient Chinese proverbs have taught us that beauty is only skin deep. By delving deeper into the soul of a person, you will learn if they are really beautiful.In the movie “The Truth about Cats and Dogs”, Ben Chaplin’s character said: “You know how someone's appearance can change the longer you know them? How a really attractive person, if you don't like them, can become more and more ugly; whereas someone you might not have even have noticed... that you wouldn't look at more than once, if you love them, can become the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?”This is true because real beauty glows from within and is a matter of perception. You do not need to spend a great amount of money for beauty products or artificial procedures to make you look good: it all comes from within. An example is: you undergo liposuction to remove or reduce the fat in your “tummy” but after that is done you find another flaw that you want to correct, etc.It is a vicious cycle where you are not, nor will you ever be content with your appearance because of low self esteem. On the other hand, if you completely accept who you are and know how to emit your good points, then your satisfaction will reflect on the outside, creating a positive and vital aura. Here are some tips on how you can maintain your beauty from within and not merely settle for skin-deep beauty. 1. Stay Happy!This is the number one rule for looking and feeling beautiful. If you have a myriad of problems and you think that you carry the world on your shoulders, it will reflect on your appearance. There will be “circles” under your eyes from lack of sleep, and you will look harassed and distressed. By staying happy and feeling young, you will exude an air of confidence and contentment that will make your skin glow. 2. Be Healthy. If you have a desk job and are tied to a desk for eight hours a day, you need to participate in extracurricular activities and spend some time outdoors under the sun. Engage in a physical sport with your friends to burn calories. Giving yourself a break will help boost your spirits Eat healthy to avoid illness. 3. Have A Positive Outlook In Life.Negative vibes are never good for anyone. Having a positive outlook on life, no matter what problems may occur, is a sure way to achieve happiness and stay beautiful.

Simple Steps To Sexy Skin

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
If you do it right, your best makeup is your own skin’s natural glow.Nothing is sexier than healthy skin. Perhaps this is because everything that enhances the appearance (makeup, clothes) eventually has to be removed – that is, except skin: which is probably why so many people spend so much on skin care products. These products command a huge share of the amount spent on personal care and cosmetics. Spending for skin cosmetic procedures (like Dermabrasion and Botox) came to almost $2 billion in the past years.Believe it or not, you still can have great skin without spending a great amount of money on lotions, moisturizers and fancy treatments like chemical peels. All you need is some common sense, a little discipline and a lot of self-love.- Hydrate, Hydrate And Hydrate Some More.There is a reason why ¾ of your body is made up of water. Most of your organs (your skin included) need water to be able to function normally. So help your body by drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day (preferably 10). Sodas, tea and coffee do not count because they actually cause dehydration.- Keep Clean.Taking regular baths or showers and keeping your skin clean and fresh will give you that glow and provide exfoliation and blood circulation. Be careful not to over-scrub, though, as it forces premature skin to the surface. It may look good at first but the skin will age and become dull sooner.- Protect Your Skin And Allow It To Rest.Remember that your skin is the largest organ of your body: it is that part of the body that is most exposed to the elements, including harmful radiation from the sun. To combat this, stay away from sunlight during the hours of 10am to 3pm and wear sunscreen when going outdoors. With all that stress, you should allow your skin (and in essence, your entire body) the time it needs to recover and rebuild damaged cells in preparation for the following day. - Avoid Smoking And Drinking.Next to harmful UV rays, cigarettes and alcohol are the worst culprits of stealing your skin’s healthy youthful look. They add toxins to a body and shows not only on your skin but in the rest of your body as well.Having great skin need not be expensive, you just need to be smart and practical. In no time, your skin will get back that sexy glow.

How To Properly Clean Your Face With The Right Cleanser To Improve Your Skin’s Appearance

Cleansing the skin is essential, since grease, grime and pollution adhere to your skin and clog the pores, every time your body rids itself of toxins through perspiration. If you do not thoroughly clean your skin, it will feel tired and sluggish resulting in minor skin irritations and problems.Your skin type is determined by your age, sex, genes and environment. How you take care of your skin will show on your hands, face and body.It is never too late or too early to start caring for your skin - to accomplish that glow that enhances your beauty.Here Are Tips For Choosing The Correct Cleanser For Your Skin:- Shiny and oily skin that is susceptible to pimples and other blemishes should be cleansed by using a “foaming wash”: this offers a clean after using and will not strip your skin of its natural, beneficial oils.- Dry skin, with a tight feeling, no shine and no open pores, should be cleansed with“cleansing milk” which is formulated for dry skin. A fast paced lifestyle can take its toll on the health and appearance of Americans. Most do not get adequate sleep, nourishment, and exercise. This is one of the reasons why vitamins and supplements have become household names. An average American needs at least thirteen vitamins to keep the body in good shape and keep everyone going. But do they improve a person’s appearance? The Following Are The Vitamins That Can Greatly Improve A Person’s Appearance:1. Vitamin E. Perhaps the most popular vitamin that is often associated with beautiful skin is Vitamin E. It protects fatty acids and keeps oxidation inside the body cells. It also helps keep body tissues from breaking down. According to US Recommended Daily Supplement (RDA), people who are 19 years or older require at least 15 milligrams of Vitamin E each day. Good sources of Vitamin E are eggs, tomato juice, apples, avocados, spinach, potatoes, turnips, etc. Having a beautiful skin will definitely improve the appearance of a person. Achieving this is easy; it only takes knowledge about Vitamin E and the proper intake of it. 2. Vitamin C.This is very essential to the body and its appearance; lack of it causes Scurvy. This disease causes inflamed and bleeding gums that result in tooth loss, slow wound healing, bumps on the legs and arms, and easy bruising. Vitamin C comes from citrus fruits such as limes, grapefruit, and oranges. It can also be found in vegetables such as green peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. 3. Vitamin D.This improves the posture by protecting the bones and muscles. An adequate supply of vitamin D3 (also known as calcium) protects a person from Osteoporosis. Obtaining this vitamin from food alone may not be easy, and for this reason it is recommended to consider using supplements. The most common sources of Vitamin D are oysters, clams, etc.; fish such as salmon and sardines; eggs, beef liver, etc. 4. Vitamin B.There are 8 groups of B-complex vitamins; these are B1 or thiamine, B2 or riboflavin, B3 or Niacin, B6 or pyridoxine, B9 or folic acid, B12 or cyanocobalamin, etc. They provide energy for the body and make skin healthy. Vitamin B can be found in cereal, rice, meat, corn, nuts, cheese, meat, eggs, etc. Vitamins, like food, are essential for keeping the body in good shape and improve its appearance. Getting them is easy as ABC. Eating a well balanced diet combined with taking vitamins is the way to go.
