Rembrandt Etchings
The ability to depict an abundance of Christian iconography, coupled with the beautiful prose associated with the work-combine to make this a landmark piece in the canon of Rembrandt's religious works. In fact, it seems a fair assertion that the Hundred Guilder Print remains the most famous and desirable Rembrandt etching. The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. occasionally displays this masterpiece.
Picasso Vollard Suite
The fine lines of the etching beautifully depict the king of the Greek gods in this relaxing encounter, Deux Hommes Sculptés (Two Male Statues). This piece combines a sense of grace with modern cubism. The Picasso Vollard Suite can better be understood by studying Ambroise Vollard himself. "…his interest in modern literature, his passion for Jarry, his love for engravings and books, his faith in Cézanne, his long-lasting relationship with Picasso, these are the salient features which both distinguish Vollard's chosen course and ensure that his name will always be a landmark, inextricably associated with some of the seminal ventures of modern times." ¹
"…Vollard took it upon himself to give us a day-by-day account of his battle for modern art." ¹
Juan Manuel Bonet explains in his essay entitled Five fragments for a Vollard that, "Today, with the benefit of hindsight, the list seems obvious, glaringly so in that it coincides with the first stirrings of modern art, or with the catalogue of, say, the MOMA or any gallery of similar standing." At the time, though, there was nothing obvious about it at all. Bonet notes Vollard's taste as being unique. Moreover, Bonet credits Vollard for bringing modern art to the forefront. He states, "No other man in Paris, a city where at that time there was no shortage of individuals with an eye for art, collected the items Vollard collected. It is truly astounding to realize that it was the Rue Laffitte, Vollard's gallery, that was the site of all three debut exhibitions which were to determine the course of art in the 20th century." ¹

Joan Miro Prints
Created in 1975, this original Joan Miro print was one of a series of 5 works by Miró for the text, Quatre Colors Aparien El Món… by writer J.V. Foix. Published by Gustavo Gili, Barcelona out of a total edition of 50 signed and numbered proofs. Printed by Joan Barbarà, Barcelona on Arches vellum paper.
This fanciful and colorful series of original engravings are both large-scale and incredibly beautiful. The entire composition is dominated by a black, spherical shape, accented by whimsical color abstractions in green, blue, and orange. The “eye” in the upper right is boldy detailed in red and yellow; the piece is similar to the four other works featured in the text by J.V. Foix. The title, Quatre Colors Aparien El Món… is playfully and mysteriously worded; each word appears to be from a different language – French, English, Spanish, and Catalunyan.
Durer woodcuts
Dürer's life is well documented due to his autobiographical notes, which allow us to study him with great accuracy. This can be beneficial even today as art collectors of Old Masters often have little documentation about an artist's life. 500 years ago, Albrecht Dürer studied art under artist Michael Wolgemut when he was fifteen. He quickly became an acclaimed artist by his mid-twenties. After traveling, he opened his own workshop where he would create his famous Durer woodcuts. These woodcuts were exceedingly popular, especially with his use of detail and balance which was lacking in many of the woodcuts of that time. Some of his most famous series are "Apocalypse", "Large Passion", "Small Passion", "Engraved Passion", and "Life of the Virgin". Masterworks Fine Art, Inc. is very proud to present these 500 year old woodcuts in excellent condition.
Calder prints
Whimsical and seemingly retro in composition and color arrangement, this classic Calder print is brimming with circles and ovals that surround two pyramids. It is a composition evenly balanced with red, blue, yellow, and black circles which are placed against one another to create a lovely backdrop for the two main subjects of this piece.
