xBox 360 Game Review - Back To School: College Hoops 2K7 for XBox 360
Back To School: College Hoops 2K7 for XBox 360 Game Review - Some people have said that College Hoops 2K7 a little too closely resembles NBA 2K7, but I beg to differ. There's a lot more detail with College Hoops, you can see the crowd going crazy during the game. You've got the band playing fight songs, and the coaches really teaching the teams. It's way different than NBA 2K7.
What they've done with College Hoops 2K7 is really capture the college atmosphere, and that's something no other college sports game has been able to do. You can't just make a pro sports game, change the teams and stats, and call it a college game. If you've ever watched college sports, you know there's a big difference, and College Hoops 2K7 really gets it.
And, it's more than just atmosphere. College Hoops 2K7 has 325 schools to choose from, and it has all the updated mascots and school songs to go with them. You can play pretty much any team in the NCAA, so everybody's happy.
But, it's quite a bit like College Hoops 2K6. In fact, that's where you'll be a little disappointed. It's pretty much the same game. You know they could have improved the graphics or added some new special features for the 2007 edition, but they didn't, and that's a little disappointing.
With College Hoops 2K7, you can play either a single game, or you can do a whole tournament and try to send your team to the finals. You can also work on your basketball chops on a practice court, so you can get yourself used to the way the player moves. There are tons of new moves packed in, so you can make the players to all kinds of stuff.
In play, you have player mode, where you can control the players dribbling, running and shooting; or you can go on coach mode and set the game's strategy. The players' moves are a lot like NBA 2K7, and you could blast the designers for their unoriginality. But, if you've played a bit of NBA 2K7, you don't have to learn new controls, so it's actually a good thing.
When you play, you use Legacy mode. With the usual Legacy mode, you play and play in the minors until your team gets better and you can head for the finals. You can also do "open" Legacy mode where you can pick any team and control them for a game or two.
The only thing I didn't like about the action of the game is the passing. It seems especially tough to get the ball to go exactly where you want it to, when it seems like it should be a simple thing. And, when the players catch the ball, they stop for a minute and collect themselves, which is unrealistic and slows the game down.
College Hoops has been the #1 rated college basketball game for a couple of years. If you're into good, realistic college basketball action, I highly recommend College Hoops Y2K.
