Another iPhone On The Market?



If you think that iPhones were only manufactured by Apple, then you might be disappointed to know that there is actually an earlier company which introduced the concept of iPhones. That company is no less than Linksys, a partition of the Cisco Systems which was accountable for the introduction of the two VOIP or voice over internet protocol handsets, while adding to the other company which offers the same service.

Linksys iPhone History And Dispute

Linksys iPhone is actually a line of internet applications, it's first model was made public by the company known as Infogear in the late 1990s. The very essence of this appliance is the combination of regular phones and a web station. When the company was later bought by the Cisco Company, no further products were introduced under this brand name from 2001 to 2006.

By the end of 2006, Cisco underwent a rebranding of its products with the same features of the Linksys-VoIP, which they also named iPhone before the Apple Company released their own version. In reality this, incident instigated a clash between the two companies.

The distinction of the two phones was drawn by the features of the two products; the Apple inspired iPhone has a combined iPod. But the two mobile phone series had their fair-share of similar features including web applications such as a browser and an email service. Their dispute was resolved when the two companies were allowed to utilize the name iPhone for their products.

The iPhone family released by Linksys comprises of seven products which are, the iPhone Dual-Mode Cordless Phone package used for Yahoo! Messenger with Voice, the iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony package used for Skype, the iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony package, the iPhone Cordless Internet Telephony package, the iPhone Wireless-G IP Phone together with Web Browser, the iPhone Wireless-G IP Phone and lastly, the iPhone Wireless-G Phone used for Skype.

The iPhone packages are composed of ground-breaking internet appliances which includes a flip-lid keyboard and a touch screen LCD which enable you to access an entrenched web browser and email service. This set of gadgets is the series which are internet enabled, paved the way for other similar gadgets such as Alcatel, 3Com Audrey, and Nortel.

The product has been lauded for being relatively cheap and trouble-free when getting on the internet, but the only fault which critiques paid attention to was its size and its insufficiency in features. Another point of complaint was the additional $5 monthly internet access fees.
